Tomorrow, Mr. Chris is going to run his first 10K. That's 6.2 miles! His zippy training has prepared him to make it to the finish. The kids and I are hoping to be there to cheer him on. That is, if everyone is feeling better. Our daughter is not feeling zippy at the moment due to a nasty virus. But don't worry. We're taking it slow today in order to get her back to her zippy self.

We hope you are enjoying your summer so far!  It seems to be really flying by for us.  We hope you have some wonderful summer time plans, whether it is playing in your yard or traveling to the beach, we'd love to hear about them. Feel free to post fun summer time activities here on the blog or on our Facebook Fan Page.

If you have been listening to us for a while, you may have figured out that "The Hike" is the sequel to a story we posted last year called "The Walk". Both of them are read by our very own Mr. Chris, who adds his own bit of personality to it.

VORACIOUS VOCABULARY

What did you say? A word of the day! That is right! In our story there are many words that are fun to use and say.

capture: to gain control of.
familiar: commonly known or seen.
muffle: to wrap with something to prevent sound.
terrain: an area of land or the ground.
wriggle: to move along by twisting and turning the body.

JUST ADD IMAGINATION!

Try these activities to keep your imagination glowing after hearing the story.

1. An antonym is a word opposite to the meaning of another. For example, in the story, the words wet and dry are antonyms.  Play a game with someone in your family.  Say a word, such a up and have them come up with the antonym.  You can easily adjust the level of difficulty.

After listening to the story, can you recall the details to answer these questions?

3. Compare and contrast yourself to one or more of the characters in the story. How are you similar? How are you different?
